The Boston Celtics are one of the NBA's premier franchises and perhaps its most successful team historically. Both the Lakers and Celtics have won 17 NBA titles each (tops in the league) with only Los Angeles appearing in more Finals series than Boston. The Celtics ruled the 20th century but have just 1 NBA title since 1986, which came when Boston beat LA in 2008 with their Big 3 of Garnett, Pierce, and Allen.

Boston has reached the playoffs in each season since 2013-14 but has failed to make it back to the NBA Finals since 09-10 (when LA got revenge on their green foes).

The label of "good but not great" would accurately describe any Celtics team within the past decade. Current stars include Jayson Tatum and Kemba Walker. They provided enough firepower to finish 2020-21 with a .500 record and the 7 seed in the East but not enough to offer the 2-seed Nets a fair fight in the Eastern Conference quarters.

The Celtics play in a stacked Atlantic division in the Eastern Conference, which contains the likes of Brooklyn, Philadelphia. New York, and Toronto. The Nets are given the best odds to win this division, with Philly second, and the Celtics third at (+850).
